 Be Satan's Worst Nightmare


One of the privileges of the true (regenerate) saints of the church, is that we get to frustrate the devil's designs against us--and hence, make his existence even more miserable than it already is (because of his rebellion against God).

A principal way we do this, is by sincerely giving our Heavenly Father thanks for *everything* that happens to us, through Jesus Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit, (cf. 1 Thess. 5:18).  When we do this via sovereign gospel grace, it is extremely frustrating for Lucifer--because even his worst deeds foisted against us cannot wrench us from our love for God through our Blessed Redeemer.

Another way we become the old snake's headache, is through sincerely loving our enemies--even when they, at Satan's bidding--come to murder us or torture us or persecute us (in any way). We recognize who is behind this undeserved ill-treatment; and we recall that we used to be in the place of our persecutors.

Yet another means by which the born again saints of the church drive the devil to distraction, is when we stand up to him, and refuse to allow him to "bully" us. We are taught this in verses such as Jas. 4:7 and Eph. 6:11 ff.  Satan is no match for Jesus; and our Good Shepherd protects us, and fights for us.

None of these supernatural heavenly practices are easy; and all of them require saving gospel faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Also, we do not primarily do these things to "irritate" the adversary of our souls. Instead, we do them to honor our Savior, put a smile on our Father's face, and to bless our brothers and sisters in God's holy church.

Still, there is no true religion where the head of all false religion (Satan) is not defeated and humiliated. And finally, we should call to mind the Messiah's words, as they are found in Lk. 10:20, which reads: "Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but that your names are written in heaven," (ESV).

What Is Preaching?

  What Is Preaching? Dedicated to all truly-called church ministers of the gospel When I ask the question, "What is preaching?", the context I have in mind is mostly, (but not exclusively), the church's Sunday worship services.  I also hope to address the issue of the goal (or end) of preaching.   Paul's 10th chapter of Romans is probably the most comprehensive treatment of this sublime subject; and his (Paul's) Holy Spirit-inspired injunction of 2 Tim. 4:2a: "Preach the Word!", says it very succinctly.   I believe that preaching is the authoritative verbal presentation of the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ in the message of His gospel of grace and mercy.  I also believe that anything short of this, is not preaching at all.  It is also my conviction that every text of Holy Scripture not only  lends  itself to this grand enterprise; but  exists  so as to facilitate it.   Therefore, when a true gospel preacher approach...
