What To Always Do When you Just Do Not Know What Else To Do
What To Always Do When you Just Do Not Know What Else To Do
So, this paper is written for Christians who love God in Jesus Christ; and who are continually asking, "What can I do to forward the gospel of Jesus--so that others will hear of Him, and have life in Him?" More-specifically, this encouragement is for regenerated Christians who are already members in good standing in faithful Christ-loving, gospel-preaching, Spirit-filled churches.
When all else fails, and we have nowhere else to turn, in terms of how we may more fully broadcast the good news of Christ--let us always do this one thing: let us be good and faithful members of the churches (we spoke of above).
. . . And the single most important activity we participate in as church members is to worship the Triune God through our faith in Jesus Christ, as we are the gathered congregations of the Lord on God's New Covenant Sabbath Days (Sundays). This convocation is the focal point not only of all Christian living--but also of evangelism, discipleship, missions, and our witness to the world. Sometimes we do not realize this; and we think of it as something "mundane" or "ordinary." In fact, the exact opposite is the truth.
Therefore, if we are to be effective Christians in the world--even in the parts of the world like the United States, where it is thought that everybody knows something about the gospel--we must start here, in church, on Sunday, as the Spirit-verified saints of God worshipping Him in Spirit and in truth.
The wisest and most astute Christians, especially those who come to realize these points mentioned above, seek to be joined to the most faithful, the most humble, the most bold, the most loving, the most gracious, the most Spirit-filled, and the most theologically faithful churches they can find (by God's grace).
The closer we are to Jesus, the closer we are to glory; and Christ is a member of His Own church--as He is the Redeemer, Head, and King of her. God is most pleased by congregations that focus on Him (Jesus); and this is manifest in both what is, and in what is not found in various church contexts.
Does a church focus on Christ and His gospel? Does it faithfully preach the good news from every text of Holy Scripture? Does it diligently proclaim the "whole counsel of God," (Acts 20:27)? Is it faithful to the great Christian Creeds of the church? Does it practice discipline--especially in being consistent with its administration of the Sacraments (Baptism and The Lord's Supper)? Is it covenantally united to other Christ-loving congregations in something resembling the ideal of a gospel-laden Presbytery? If so, then this church would be a good choice--so long as its "life" is real; and that Life is found in Jesus alone, enhanced by the presence of the Blessed Holy Spirit.
For you pastors out there, please recognize this: everything you are called to do is important--but nothing is more significant than your basic privileged "duties" of preaching Jesus and His gospel; of faithfully handling God's Sacraments; and as leading your sheep in prayer and worship.
By what means will God save His elect in the world? Through the witness of His church, as she worships Him in Christ, and loves one another in the power and grace of The Holy Spirit.
"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another," (John 13:35).
