The Christian Commonwealth, Part 2

 The Christian Commonwealth, Part 2

I have never been one, much, to follow trends; and to "stay up" on a lot of the things that the world (even the religious world) gets engrossed in. . . . But I did read an NPR article about an interview they did with D. Wilson; and I thought I should give a response, and make my own position as clear as possible. . . .

Bottom line: I do not concur with what D. Wilson says.  I think the idea of depriving women of the vote, in society or in the church, is anti-scriptural and completely wrong-headed.  Also, anyone who condones slavery (if indeed he does) should probably have their head examined.

. . . But, the most important thing I wish to say--and this is in harmony with what I wrote earlier--is that, should the United States become "Christianized," we are going to have to "earn" it.  (And I am one who does not like words like, "earn," or "merit"--when it comes to religious conversations.)  What I mean is, if the nation is to get its bearings in line with Christ, His gospel, and His true church--then the believers in the true church are going to have to believe and live in such a way that these dramatic changes (for the better) come to be.  In other words, the change has to be "organic," spiritual, from the "bottom" "up."  These changes cannot properly take place through coercion, force, or legislation.  They must be gospel transformations that truly and effectively change a culture.

The First (and only, in my opinion) Great Awakening is our living model of what I am talking about (and proposing).  IF, and that is a big "if," the Lord chooses to send a great work of His Spirit upon His church, even in our own country; and if it pleases Him (the Lord) to do this--then we are in a rightful place to see gospel transformation affect all of life--including civil life.

If we, that is, the true church, choose not to care, not to pray, not to love, not to evangelize, not to be "salt and light" in the world--then we do not have any claim to this nation as being the object of further Spirit-wrought Christianization.  In that case, the wicked forces in the country, who have done their best to destroy it, probably have the (God-judgmental) "right" to it, (though they have no proper "right" to anything God has made).

Anyway, I thought I should put this out.  May the Triune God bless His church throughout the whole world--and right here in the United States, as well.
